"Dailymotion, according to Starbuck"
Sent by Starbuck on July 29, 2008.
Dailymotion is an online service for sharing and viewing videos. The uploaded videos can be public or private, restricted to authorized users. They are also organized by tags and can be added to blogs, personal websites or social networking profiles.
Dailymotion organizes its videos by channels, tags, users, Highest Rated, Most Recent and Most Popular. A video is popularized when users add it to their favorite lists and there is also a list of the most popular videos based videos with the highest rating in the last fifteen days.
You can use the tags to add keywords so the videos are easier to find. You can also add videos to groups you belong to based on common interest.
When you upload a video, you can mark it as public or private. If it is private only users you authorize through a private list can view it. This list can also be used to subscribe to your contacts’ channels, so when they upload a new video, it immediately appears in the space “My Channel.”
Another function offered by Dailymotion is the possibility to add videos in your blog by selecting “Add to Blog.” The title and description of the video automatically appears on the blog, but you can modify the texts manually.
It’s a good site, but it doesn’t offer anything different from other video sites aside from a management group that chooses the best videos and adds them to the first places in search results. There is also a program of special users called Motionmakers who upload original videos onto Dailymotion. To become a Motionmaker, you have to upload videos that are completely original and sufficiently interesting and well produced (this is to say, personal home videos don’t count).
Last, but not least, the image quality is outstanding (it is one of the few websites that offers high definition) and the videos load incredibly fast.
